Simply put, the caste system in Brave New World is based on intelligence that was more or less determined during conception.

Therefore, those of higher castes (and thus higher intellect), were the most nurtured throughout their embryonic development. Although, there are some differences, the social order of Brave New World most closely resembles the caste system of India. For example, in Brave New World, the five castes described, were Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon, where Alphas were of the highest order, and the Epsilons of the lowest. This system, known as the caste system, is popular in the Hindu culture and breaks society down into different peoples, each have a different social standard.

Much like in the Indian caste system, where the classes are Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra, the highest to lowest ranks, equivalent to those in Brave New World.

In Brave New World Revisited, a series of essays on topics suggested by the novel, Huxley emphasizes the necessity of resisting the power of tyranny by keeping one's mind active and free.
